A Day at Denbies – One of UK’s 1st Wineries!

After saying goodbye to France's finest vines, it was time to visit the UKs first wine region, the Surrey Hills Vineyards, south-west of London.

Our European wine expedition ended at Denbies, one of England's largest single estate

vineyards and a fantastic introduction to UK’s growing wine region of over 200 wineries!

We spent the day exploring the intimate Surrey Hills wine route in the south-east of England, from Greyfriars to Denbies, stopping at the various vineyards along the way and absorbing the view from Box Hill.

While Greyfriars, Chilworth, Albury & High Clandon produce almost exclusively English sparkling wines, Denbies is home to a remarkable 15 grape varietals and offers several white, red & sparkling wines, guaranteed to suit any palate!

We were spoilt for choice with numerous vineyard and cellar tours (some available year-round, others are seasonal), tasting and pairing experiences, and 4 different restaurants to choose from!

We opted for the Indoor Wine Tasting Experience, starting with an immersive short film about the vineyards through the seasons (while sipping on some delightful sparkling wine!), followed by a walk through the scenic estate, culminating in a full cellar tour where we sampled various wines from the Rondo to the Chardonnay (Note: tours & tastings run on the hour daily from 11am - 4pm (subject to seasonal change)).

We ended our afternoon shopping for goodies at their local farm shop before sitting down for a relaxing picnic with a view of their vast vineyards, and, of course, a glass (or few) of their fruity Rose Hill rosé.
