Sipping in Style - Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival 2025

With this year's Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival on the horizon, we’re reminiscing about our visit to last year’s – a sparkling celebration of the finest vintages from the Plettenberg Wine Route. After a more than 5-year hiatus, the long-awaited return of this beloved local event was nothing short of magical!

Set against the enchanting backdrop of Kay & Monty Vineyards, tucked into the rolling hills of The Crags, the festival marked its comeback in true Garden Route style - live music, gourmet bites, exclusive tastings of W.O. Plett wines, and wine masterclasses lead by the top local winemakers... what a day!

We were lucky enough to attend the final day of the festival, which fell over the extended Easter weekend - and what a celebration it was. A highlight being the private masterclass series - a true insider’s experience, guided by the three phenomenal local vintners who are defining the character of the Plett Wine Route.

First up at the intimate masterclass (limited to only 20 seats per session!) was Anton Smal guiding us through his selection of award-winning Plett Cap Classiques (from Kay & Monty, Bramon & Newstead), followed by Sollie Sauerman from Packwood showcasing the local white varietals through the years (including a stunning Sauvignon Blanc), highlighting the aging potential of white wines. We ended on a high note with Jaco van der Watt from Lodestone, who focused on the exquisite Pinot Noir’s from the various local Plett wineries.

Winemakers Masterclass: A group at a wooden table tastes wine in a rustic cellar, with wine barrels and glasses. A person gestures while speaking.

Throughout the day, we met new faces shaping the region from winemakers to viticulturists & new owners, including from Whiskey Creek Wines - the latest addition to the Plett Winelands family!

Looking forward to this year's celebrations; you won’t want to miss out celebrating 20 years of the phenomenal Plett Winelands!
