Tulbagh Wine Route

Saronsberg

Twee Jongen Gezellen


Tucked in the northwest corner of the Tulbagh (the 4th oldest town in SA) wine region is 300-year-old Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate, the historic home of Krone - a collection of Vintage-Only, terroir-driven Cap Classiques.

They invented cold fermentation in the 1950s and have the honour of being home to the first underground cellar in Africa! The first Krone Borealis vintage (1987) was released in 1991 to much acclaim.

 

Oudekloof Wine Estate

At the foot of the historic Oudekloof pass lies Oudekloof Wine Estate, offering delightful wine tastings, scenic tractor rides for all ages, live music and amazing views of the valley!

Montpellier

Treat yourself to a marvellous tasting in Montpellier’s manicured garden under the shade of old oak trees or in the gorgeous glass house. Choose between the MCC tasting (try their 3 MCCs) and the still wine tasting (selection of 6 wines) @75pp each.

Bosjes Kombuis pays tribute to the farm's culinary heritage with a seasonal menu served amidst modern design elements and an inviting deck for al fresco dining. Adorning one exterior wall is a striking blue & white Delft-inspired mural of the Bosjes Tree of Life, portraying indigenous fauna & flora (created by Cape Town artists Michael Chandler and Lucie de Moyencourt).

This newly built extension to the cellar provides a tranquil atmosphere and leads out onto their indigenous gardens, perfect for the summer months. Tastings cost R100pp for 5 wines but will be waivered with purchases of R100 or more.

Mila, their brand-new restaurant situated in the original wagon house, provides a world-class experience. Diemersfontein

In the shadow of the Hawekwa Mountains with an all-encompassing view of the Du Toit’s Kloof & Bains’ Kloof mountain ranges is Diemersfontein, dating back to the 1800’s.

Bosman Family Vineyards, founded on the historic family farm of Lelienfontein, has a proud heritage of vine growers reaching back 8 generations.

The tasting room, located in the original 270-year-old cellar, offers personalized wine tastings dependent on the customer’s preference. Standard tastings are @R100pp, while premium tastings cost @R200pp.

Dunstone

At the base of the Bainskloof pass is Dunstone, a guest house and boutique winery backed by the Hawequa mountains.

Pay a visit to their on-site restaurant, The Stone Kitchen, and indulge in classic home-style dishes from light lunches to hearty meals. They also offer a great tots’ menu as well as indoor & outdoor play areas! Our tots absolutely loved the indoor climbing wall during our previous winter visit!

 

Welbedacht

This down-to-earth estate on the slopes of Groenberg is family owned and managed by the renowned Schalk Burger and sons. At Welbedacht guests can uncover the age-old traditions of wine making and cricket.

The tasting room, being one of the oldest buildings on the estate, still houses old cement fermenters & underground tanks restored with a modern touch. Sample from their 3 ranges – the Meerkat Range (an international favourite and great value for money!), the Estate Range, and the Proprietor’s Range (premium wines for the wine connoisseur).

 

Val du Charron

The award-winning Val du Charron Wine & Leisure Estate, with its unmistakable mountain views, is a truly unique wine tasting experience. Dance to your own tune with their Theatre of Wine tasting consisting of Three Acts featuring The Black Countess (their flagship Rhone-style blend).

Stellenbosch Wine Route

Delheim

On the slopes of the splendid Simonsberg Mountain is the family owned Delheim Wine Estate, a pioneer of South African wine routes.

Indulge in the Reserve Tasting @R150pp or the Premium Tasting @R85pp in the cozy downstairs cellar, or soak in the sun outside on the lovely garden patio with views of Table Mountain. Delight in their latest Wine & Fynbos Cupcake Pairing!

Experience a tasting either seated (cosy up in the George Paul Canitz gallery or take in the views on the tasting terrace) or standing (sip wines in the old tasting room – the cobweb-stained windows are a truly breathtaking sight). Classic Tastings of 5 wines are R100pp, while Premium Tastings are R150pp. Sample their Flagship Additions @R360pp for 6 wines. Try their yummy chocolate and wine pairing @R100pp only.
