Nestled in the enchanting Harkerville Forests between Plettenberg Bay & Knysna, we find another winery to cross off our South African Winery To-Taste list! Packwood is a charming country-style winery and dairy farm run by Vicky and Peter Gent, with a lovely, relaxed atmosphere offering authentic countryside wine tasting experiences with fresh, homegrown produce to accentuate it all.
Sip & savour their handcrafted wines alongside one of their delectable farmhouse cheese platters made daily by Lisa, and melt into the views of nature as you feel your stresses slip away…
We were treated to an incredible wine tasting experience with Sollie Sauerman - Packwood’s winemaker since the 2019 harvest! He has been innovative with their c3.5 ha vineyard of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
All the wines really impressed us! From the lightly-wooded Sauvignon to the well-balanced Chardonnay also on lees, and finally their superb 2019 Pinot Noir - matured in French oak for 9 months with lots of cherries & fresh red fruit on the palate. Certainly a moment to fill up our boot and wine rack!
Sustainable practices are promoted as much as possible like - rain harvesting, natural fertilisers, bio-dynamic management and a wealth of farming knowledge going back 5 generations, ensuring a symbiotic relationship with the vineyard.
Their homemade lunches are the perfect midday snack - creamy, light and fragrantly flavoured cheeses infused with homegrown herbs, served with freshly baked bread, preserves & a garden salad - with an option to add local organic charcuterie to the mix!
Experience their Breakfast with Bubbles at only R110pp! Dine on their divine eggs benedict, made with farm fresh organic eggs, lashings of hollandaise sauce and home baked bread! Served with a crisp, cold glass of their Gent MCC (Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir), you wouldn’t want to start your day any other way!
Re-connect with nature and stay at one of Packwood’s spacious farmhouses or quaint cosy farm cottages.
With close proximity to Garden Route attractions & activities, you can ignite your adventurous side by hiking or cycling through pristine forests (of Fiela Se Kind world) - beautiful farmlands - ravines & stunning coastal routes!
